Block A was the very first acreage of vines that were planted on the property. They also serve as the grand entrance into the winery. We felt there was no better way to start the wine experience than by driving through a row of vines. It consists of eight different varieties: two red (St. Croix and Frontenac) and six white. All the vines, with the exception of Niagara, are hybrid vines meaning they are designed to grow in extremely cold environments as compared to vinifera, which are the common European grapes (Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, etc.). Our location is too cold to grow vinifera vines, but it is well suited to grow hybrid varieties. Niagara is considered a native variety as it grows exceptionally well in this climate.
St. Croix and Frontenac are both used for our Vineyards Red wine, Niagara is used for both our Lindale and Midnight Vines wines, and Melody, Cayuga (pronounced Key-yoo-guh) White, Vignoles and Valvin Muscat are all blended together to make our Vineyards White wine. Seyval is processed on its own and will be released in a future wine.
